After a month of basking in nature, both real and digital, we’ve cultivated a list of our five favorite user projects from April 2022!

Sam Donaghey – “Churchyard”

Sam Donaghey’s “Churchyard” is a beautiful example of a stylized environment enhanced by impeccable lighting (makes sense since it was made during his time in Peter Tran’s CGMA lighting course!) Read our interview with Florian Elie for tips on creating your next stylized scene.

Mathis Giland – “TRAPPED”

As a comedy that uses just 6 different shots, we found inspiration in both the terrariums and efficient storytelling of Mathis Giland’s, “TRAPPED”. If you want to design tropical terrarium trees of your own, check out these tutorials by Adrien Lambert!

Flowers made by Alex Bychkov

Flowers can be complicated to design in SpeedTree but Alex Bychkov makes it look effortless! Try to build flowers of your own by emulating the process detailed in our interview with Anthony Fylladitis.

Kriss Yu – “TAKEOVER – Abandoned Factory”

Kris Yu’s “TAKEOVER – Abandoned Factory,” is an eerily peaceful scene shaped by the Gnomon student experimenting with new techniques and taking feedback from peers and mentors. Speaking of artists who sing the praises of collaboration, read our interview with Artem Ostapchuk to learn how constructed his enigmatic jungle scene.

Historic VR – “Guildford Castle VR – Gardens”

True to their name, the Historic VR team made it possible to explore the historic Guildford Castle gardens during their peak blooming season, no matter the time of year or physical location. For another project that prioritizes the accurate portrayal of an environment in real-time, read our interview with Quixel artist Jonathan Holmes.

Firebush: Field
Firebush
(Cinema)

While bearing different blooms than those found on the bushes of Sam Donaghey’s, “Churchyard,” the firebush still adds splash of color to the mid-level of any scene they’re in.

Banyan
(Cinema | Games)

The banyan would be a suitable bonsai terrarium tree with strong leaf veining to hide the insect of Mathis Giland’s, “TRAPPED,” from its hungry neighbor.

Daisy
(Cinema | Games)

With a growing variety of flowers in Alex Bychkov’s portfolio, the asset inspired by his work has to be our daisy.

Balloon Vine
(Games)

With so many weeds reclaiming the building in Kriss Yu’s, “TAKEOVER – Abandoned Factory,” why not include this perennial creeper among the opportunistic vegetation?

English Walnut
(Cinema | Games)

As a tree cultivated throughout Europe for its oil and aromatic flowers, this shade tree wouldn’t be out of place in Historic VR’s, “Guildford Castle VR – Gardens”
