As the grip of winter wanes and sunshine creeps back into our days, find inspiration for your work to blossom with five of our favorite user projects from February 2022.

Shangyu Wang – “Terrarium”

Shangyu Wang’s still life is realistically lit and layered, making us feel wistful for a desktop biome of our own. Scale up your realistic environment aspirations with archviz artist Vincent Filhine-Trésarrieu’s breakdown of, “Road to Buzludzha”.

Alexander Livholts – “Coffee by the pergola”

Drifting beneath the pergola, heavy with blooming wisteria, Alexander Livholt’s scene is as soothing and energizing as a fresh pot of coffee. Flower modeling can feel overwhelming: learn from the process of Anthony Fylladitis

Shunsaku Matsurida – Environment from “A Serpent’s Lust”

Set to the hypnotic score of Belgium band The Golden Glows, a woman treads beneath the winding branches of trees into the increasingly surreal real-time landscapes of Shunsaku Matsurida. Learn more about creating real-time animation in our breakdown of Unity’s short film, “WiNDUP”.

Jean-Michel Bihorel – “Sedimental Memories No 07”

Reminiscent of the larger than life fantasy forests seen in Princess Mononoke, Jean-Michel Bihorel’s gorgeous scene was created for a course at The Gnomon Workshop. For real-time forest tips and tricks, check out our interview with Jonjo Hemmens about how he built, “Hemlock Forest”

Anessa Silzer – “Meadow Ruins”

There’s something undoubtedly satisfying about the gentle sway of nature in Anessa Silzer’s, “Meadow Ruins”. Get more insight on a stylized workflow in our interview with Florian Elie

Bristlecone Pine
(Cinema)

The gnarled trunk of a bristlecone is reminiscent of those we see in bonsai gardens and mini biomes like Shangyu Wang’s, “Terrarium”

Wisteria
(Cinema)

Much like the flowers suspended from Alexander Livholts’ pergola, our fragrant wisteria will climb and bloom from the supports you provide it.

Coastal Live Oak
(Cinema)

The winding branches of our Coastal Live Oak undulate and loom, much like the trees of Shunsaku Matsurida appearing in “A Serpent’s Lust”.

Giant Sequoia
(Cinema | Games)

The towering silhouettes and thick trunks of giant sequoia come closest to the fantastical trees depicted in Jean-Michel Bihorel’s, “Sedimental Memories No 07”

Fern
(Cinema | Games)

As seen in the foreground of Anessa Silzer’s, “Meadow Ruins,” ferns are a fantastic shade-loving groundcover for stylized and realistic scenes alike.
