Another whirlwind year draws to a close! As we reflect on the many wonderful artists we’ve had an opportunity to spotlight and interview, find five fantastic projects from our final month of 2021 here!

Tom Sanders – “Untamed: When Animals Ruled the World – The Dam”

Tom Sanders’ real-time interpretation of Arthur Bourgeais’ concept art brings this beaver village to life with expansive scale and stylized vegetation. If you prefer realism, check out our interview with Vincent Filhine-Tresarrieu about their short film’s expansive, CG environment.

José Luis Revuelta García – “Autumn Season (Real-TIme) Unreal Engine”

We’re glad to have José Luis Revuelta García’s colorful, mushroom laden scene, “Autumn Season (Real-TIme) Unreal Engine,” to brighten up the darkness of our short winter days. For more fall color, check out our interview with matte painter Marc Zimmerman as he breaks down his forest lighting and compositions in, “The Snow Monster’s Cave”.

Gen Li – “The Tsunami”

While the centerpiece of Gen Li’s, “The Tsunami” is its namesake simulation, the palms included in the demonstration do their part to help convey the destructive force’s impact on the environment. For a scene centered on ecosystem research, read our interview with Quixel artist Jonathan Holmes.

Artem Ostapchuk – “Jungle Path Scene”

Artem Ostapchuk’s, “Jungle Path Scene,” presents a mysterious and mesmerizing jungle teeming with biodiversity and life. Making a detailed environment perform well in real-time is a challenge of optimization: read how Ubisoft Environment artist Pierre Afoumado tackled that challenge on Ghost Recon.

Student Group Project – “Frog Soup”

As we sink into the chill of winter, the stylized environment and sound design of “Frog Soup,” warmed our hearts and stuck with us like a hot and hardy meal. Seeking more realistic round boughs? Check out Guilherme Rabello’s breakdown of his Araucaria trees!

Boxwood
(Cinema)

The round forms of our carefully shaped boxwood bushes could mesh in seamlessly with the stylized vegetation in environments like Tom Sander’s, “The Dam”.

Sugar Maple
(Games)

Producing a vibrant show of colors in the fall, our sugar maple would be welcome in José Luis Revuelta García’s, “Autumn Season”.

Queen Palm
(Cinema | Games)

The dense trunk of the queen palm will provide more resistance to wind and, when swept away, help to illustrate the destructive power of natural disasters like Gen Li’s, “The Tsunami”.

Banyan
(Cinema | Games)

Growing into a large, intricate tangle of vines and dense foliage commonly found in jungles, the banyan would fit well into Artem Ostapchuk’s primordial, “Jungle Path Scene”.

Araucaria Pine
(Cinema | Games)

With the above reference to Guilherme Rabello’s breakdown, it should come as no surprise that we bring back the round boughed Araucaria pine when thinking of vegetation inspired by the stylized forms in “Frog Soup”.
