Spring has arrived and we’re already a quarter of the way into 2021! Since the days fly by and you may have missed them, here are five of our favorite artist spotlights from March!

Alka Li – “Old Buildings on the Darro, Granada”

Based on a painting of the same name by David Roberts, Alka Li’s 3D rendering breathes new life into the landscape (& contributes an alternate evening view). Among the vines and overgrown plants in the scene, we spied a few determined palms; if you want to create tropical plants to add a pop of texture to your scene, check out our tutorial on palm trees!

Michael Gerard – Mossy Forest”

We want to get lost in the foggy twists and turns of Michael Gerard’s, “Mossy Forest.” Create similar branching structures in SpeedTree by familiarizing yourself with the branch generator, especially noise!

Lisa Schertler – “A Rainy Day”

You might scroll past the impeccably lit scene of Lisa Schertler’s, “A Rainy Day,” and assume you’ve just seen a photo but a wireframe render proves otherwise. Learn how to grow foliage over the meshes of your scene with this tutorial on mesh crawling.

Danny Whitehouse – “Summer”

The biodiversity of Danny Whitehouse’s, “Summer,” is one of the many features that make his landscape so beautiful. If tackling the complex foliage of flowers intimidates you, check out Anthony Fylladitis’s approach to building the blooms of, “Marigold.”

Cristian Durnea – “River Environment”

You can’t go wrong with a classic picturesque meadow like Cristian Durnea’s, “River Environment.” Build up natural groundcover for your forest with our livestream on making grass!

Sago Palm
(Cinema)

Among the overgrown vines and flowers of Alka Li’s, “Old Buildings on the Darro, Grenada,” we spied a persistent palm, much like our low-growing jungle sago palm.

Coastal Live Oak
(Cinema)

The winding branches of Michael Gerard’s, “Mossy Forest,” remind us of our coastal live oak.

Balloon Vine
(Games)

Let spring foliage spill through your scene like Lisa Schertler’s, “A Rainy Day,” with our balloon vine.

English Walnut
(Cinema | Games)

The broadleaf at the center of Danny Whitehouse’s, “Summer,” brings to mind the uneven canopy of our English walnut.

Bushy Bluestem Grass
(Games)

When building a lush forest scene like Cristian Durnea’s, “River Environment,” add natural groundcover like our bushy bluestem grass!
