June turned up the heat and brought a bounty of awesome artwork: here are five of our favorites from a month of sharing!

Raj Joshi“A Small Peek”

Depth of field and fog create a fantastic frame for the subjects of Raj Joshi’s Fable 2 tribute, “A Small Peek.” Joshi’s progression reel shows the gradual building of detail and lighting refinement, similar to Marc Zimmerman’s matte painting process.

Adam Streeter“Dota 2: Nemestice – Props and Set Dressing”

In the Dota 2 trailer for Nemestice, the distinct silhouettes and contrasting colors of Adam Streeter’s toon-style foliage allow for flowing action sequences and compelling, multi-level compositions. Whether stylized or realistic, it can be easy to get lost in the details of foliage modeling: read the process Anthony Fylladitis uses to create his realistic vegetation.

Fady Kadry“Rivendell fan-art”

This brief glimpse into the hidden elven town of middle-earth is beautiful and the result of a mini-pipeline made at home by Fady Kadry. If you need encouragement to try something equally ambitious, read how embracing new challenges helped Vincent Filhine-Tresarrieu grow as an artist

Arnaud Claudet“The Aorta Valley – Winner – The Rookies Contest”

Inspired by The Rookies contest prompt, Arnaud Claudet created a story that shaped a vibrant and captivating world. If you have trouble building fictional worlds of your own, learn how a seasoned concept artist uses narrative to fashion fantasy realms in our interview with Finnian MacManus.

Mick Jundt – “Wizard Tower”

Swirling clouds and a mossy stone fence encapsulate the grounds of Mick Jundt’s, “Wizard Tower.” The environment is the result of his determination to learn new techniques for building stylized scenes in Unreal Engine. For another artist’s approach to the stylized workflow, check out our interview with Florian Elie.

English Walnut
(Cinema | Games)

The thick, grey trunks of the trees in Raj Joshi’s, “A Small Peek,” bring to mind our English walnut.

Araucaria Pine
(Cinema | Games)

Adam Streeter’s trees in the Nemestice trailer form round clusters of leaves and flowers, reminiscent of the round needle clusters on our araucaria pine.

Sweetgum
(Cinema | Games)

If you’re looking to create a vibrant forest like the one in Fady Kadry’s, “Rivendell fan-art,” check out our sweetgum’s seasonal colors.

Leatherleaf Mahonia
(Cinema)

The otherworldly landscape of Arnaud Claudet’s, “The Aorta Valley,” has us remembering the colorful berries and tiered clusters of the leatherleaf mahonia.

Dwarf Japanese Cedar
(Cinema | Games)

While not stylized like those found in Mick Jundt’s, “Wizard Tower,” the dense foliage of our dwarf Japanese cedar will add a touch of variety to the levels of your landscape.
