December, like much of the year, zoomed by. Before we jump into 2021, let’s look back at some of our favorites from the final month of 2020.

Malik Ali Nawaz – “Into the Painting-Verse”

Malik Ali Nawaz’s whimsical animation, “Into the Painting-Verse,” takes being immersed in your work to another level. Learn how to create bushes like the ones dotting Nawaz’s scene from this SpeedTree livestream!

Martín Letizia – “The Neighbourhood”

In a year where many of us didn’t get to revisit our hometowns for the holidays, Martin Letizia’s real-time environment feels like a drive down memory lane. If you want ivy or flowering plants to adorn the meshes of your scene, import them into SpeedTree as a mesh force to anchor your growth.

Liam Tart – “The Shire [UE4]”

We’ve seen a few gorgeous renderings of The Hobbit home, but Liam Tart gives us an expansive look at the fantasy landscape surrounding it. With scenes of this scale, it’s important to optimize your LODs.

Marc Schneider – “Fairy Lake”

The colorful foliage and cabin at the center of Marc Schneider’s landscape are tucked between blankets of fog, land, and lake, giving the piece a cozy mood. If your tree’s colors aren’t quite right, you can adjust the RGB values, brightness, contrast, and saturation of your uploaded textures in the modeler. Head to our docs for a more in-depth review of PBR materials!

The Union – “No Way Home”

The Union’s combination of Chernobyl’s dilapidated landscape and the poetry of Charles Bukowski results in a potent rumination on life and death. Much of the vegetation appears to branch upward, which can be achieved by adjusting their “start angle” under “orientation”. Refresh yourself on the parameters of the branch generator here.

Azalea
(Cinema)

Dot your hillside with colorful shrubs like those in Malik Ali Nawaz’s, “Into the Painting-Verse,” with our azalea.

Colorado Blue Spruce

(Cinema)

The tiered branches of the real-time conifer between homes in Martín Letizia’s, “The Neighbourhood,” bring to mind our Colorado Blue Spruce.

Wheat

(Cinema | Games)

Many plants billow gently in the breeze of Liam Tart’s, “The Shire [UE4],” but the patches of wheat brought the most contrast to the fields of green.

Sugar Maple

(Cinema | Games)

The colorful shade trees surrounding the lakeside cabin in Marc Schneider’s, “Fairy Lake,” make us think of our sweet Sugar Maples.

Italian Cypress

(Cinema | Games)

The tall trees bordering the cement countyard in The Union’s, “No Way Home,” remind us of our Italian Cypress.
