Description
Chinaberry Tree
Chinaberry Trees, or Melia azedarach, are a quick-growing invasive species that yields high quality timber. They grow in the US, including Hawaii, but originate from Southern Asia (India) and Australia. Other common names are the Pride of India, Bead Tree, Cape Lilac, Persian Lilac, Indian Lilac, and Syringa Berrytree. They have a poisonous, fleshy berry that wrinkles as it matures through the winter. In the spring, the branches fill up with purple buds.
