This grass is a valuable pasture plant, characteristic of well-drained, fertile soil. It is also used for making lawns in parks and gardens and is common in cool moist climates like the northeastern United States.
3. Cattail (Typha latifolia)
This wetland plant is most widely known for its spongy dense flowers. Cattails, or ‘Bullrush’ can be found along marshes or in river beds.
4. Elephant Grass (Pennisetum purpureum)
This type of grass is native to the grasslands of Africa. It is very tall and gets its namesake from being a favorite food of elephants.
5. Hollywood Juniper (Juniperus chinensis)
This durable evergreen is known for its pliable shape. The tree’s dense needles provide a perfect canvas for pruning. It can be used for ground coverage, windbreak, or simply decoration.
6. Knapweed (Centaurea)
This short-lived perennial grows in grasslands and open forests. Knapweed comes in many varieties, including Meadow, Diffuse, Brown, Spotted, and Russian Knapweeds.
7. Rough Grass (Pao trivialis)
This grass is commonly found in meadows and pastures throughout Britain. Also, this type of grass is perfect for the rough of a golf course.
8. Snake Weed (Gutierrezia sarothrae)
This bushy perennial shrub occurs on rocky plains and desert valleys. It exhibits small yellow ray flowers in the fall.
9. Western Sword Fern (Polystichum munitum)
Also known as the Christmas Fern or Sword Holly Fern, this sword fern is extremely populous in the Pacific Northwest. It flourishes under the shady canopy of nearly every tree in the region, and even forms carpets of fronds by themselves.
