1. Barrel Cactus (Ferocactus echidne)
This deeply ribbed cactus is short and stubby like a barrel. It features small yellow flowers around the crown, but only after many years of growth.
2. Dog Rose (Rosa canina)
Rosa canina, or Dog Rose, is a climbing wild rose species native to Europe, northwest Africa and western Asia. The normal height range of this deciduous shrub is 1-5 meters, sometimes climbing to the crowns of taller trees.
3. Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)
Green-leaved and red-leaved versions of this deciduous shrub. This small tree can grow to 6 m (20ft) tall and wide. Very common to the eastern United States and most of Europe.
4. Marigold (Tagetes erecta, patula)
Marigolds are perennial flowering plants. Often referred to as either Mexican, African, or French Marigold, this flower isn’t native to any of those regions but rather has had cultivars developed in those locations.
5. Mushrooms (Boletus edulis & Panaeolina foenisecii)
Bolete: Bolete mushrooms are characterized by their umbrella-shaped caps with porous undersides (as opposed to gilled). They also almost always grow on the ground, near trees. Common Mushroom: These common lawn mushrooms are often found in clusters. They are characterized by mottled gills and prominent stalk rings.
6. Stumps (Arbor interruptus)
Simple tree stumps with rings and saw marks.
7. Switch Cane (Arundinaria tecta)
Commonly mistaken for bamboo proper, switch cane is a small, twiggy plant native to the U.S. and South Africa. Its shoots are idealy shaped for switches, and its slender leaves have been used in basket weaving.
8. Thick Grass
This grass provides a middle ground. Similar to Broad-leaved Meadow-grass (Poa chaixii), it’s not as manicured as Backyard Grass nor is it as tall and wispy as Rough Grass. Perfect for fence lines and other semi-wild areas.
9. Wheat (Triticum spp.)
The ubiquitous cereal grain. One of the first cereals known to have been domesticated. Typically grows from .7 to 1.3 m (2 to 4 ft) and some species are known to top out at 2.3 m (7 ft).
