Avengers: Infinity War has smashed through the opening weekend records like the Hulk smashing, well, everything. Meaning 9 of the top 10 U.S. opening weekend blockbusters feature visual effects created with the help of SpeedTree.

The opening weekend box office records have become like the Stanley Cup, symbolically passed on through easter egg-laden congratulatory tweets.  Popular franchises are leapfrogging each other as each successive installment demands more hype and upwards of 2,000 visual effects shots per film.  Of the movies on the U.S. list this week, most were created with a complex pipeline that included SpeedTree as well as many other tools. Proving that as the demand for larger visual spectacles continues, so does the evolution of tools adopted by artists to create them.

Studios need tools that don’t inhibit their ability to create and improvise while being efficient enough to tackle visual effects shots of a huge scale. It’s a challenge that we’ve taken on since we first worked with ILM to develop Academy Award-winning SpeedTree Cinema, helping them to create the densely forested worlds of Pandora and has since been used on hundreds of films and tv shows.

We’re honored to be able to work with the talented teams at all the visual effects studios to provide them with the solutions they need and can’t wait to see what they create next!
